Initiatives and measures to reduce the vulnerability of natural and human systems against actual or expected climate change effects. There are a range of types of adaptation, for example anticipatory and reactive, private and public, and autonomous and planned. Examples are raising river or coastal defences, the substitution of normal crop varieties or animal breeds with more temperature resilient crop or animal breeds.
